A late-night shooting occurred in Trenton on September 14 that was fatal for one victim. The Trenton shooting also left another person suffering from a serious gunshot injury. The shooting occurred around midnight near Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Trenton, NJ. Police officers quickly responded to reports of gunfire. Upon arriving on scene, officers found Jibri Chisholm, a 26-year-old resident of Trenton, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Another victim at the scene has sustained a single gunshot wound. They were both immediately taken via ambulance to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, but Chisholm passed away a short time later due to the extent of his wounds. The other victim was later released from the hospital.
Homicides on the Rise in Trenton, New Jersey
Since June, there have been eight (8) reported homicides in Trenton, New Jersey. Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora recently explained her position on the alarming spate of murders. She explained, “It’s a result of economic conditions and the lack of hope.” The Trenton mayor further stated that she believes a lack of jobs and opportunities has given rise to these violent crimes.The Mercer County Homicide Task Force is investigating the situation, but no arrests have been made in the most recent fatal shooting.
