A 19-year-old suspect has turned himself in to authorities in connection with the shooting of a 3-year-old boy in Trenton. While more arrests are expected to be made the suspect has been charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault along with weapons charges. The 3-year-old boy who was with his father when the shooting occurred is said to be stable condition as he recovers from a bullet that had passed through his upper left arm.
Police State Multiple Shots Were Fired
The police have stated that both the boy and his father were approached by multiple suspects when the shooting occurred. A witness who was located by the scene said she believed she heard more than a dozen bullets being fired outside of her home including ones that left a hole in the back door of her car as well as blowing out a tire and shattering a passenger side window. With this type of situation involving multiple shots many are saying it is miracle that the boy is still alive and that more people were not injured as a result of the event. As of now the young toddler is recovering which is truly the best case scenario all things considered.
Controversy Over Guns
With the Parkland High School shooting in Florida still in the news as well as the more recent Santa Fe High School Shooting in Texas there seems to me more growing debate on the issue of guns now more than ever. Whether you believe the issue has to do with too many guns in this country or not the facts are that gun violence especially mass shootings happens more often in this country than in any other advanced country in the world. Luckily in this instance it seems as though this toddler will be okay, but anytime a child is the topic of a shooting the debate over guns will once again be brought to the table. New Jersey is well known for having more complex gun laws than other states which makes the fact that this young child was shot in Trenton even more alarming. As of now the police department has refused to go into more detail behind the shooting as the investigation is still ongoing. There are some who believe that the motive may be due to a neighborhood dispute going on in nearby areas but nothing has been said to the public on that issue as of yet. Police are still hopeful that this one arrest will help lead to finding the other suspects that they believe were also responsible for the shooting.
